The last minute crunch

Time is getting closer and before you know it we will be on a plane to China to meet our daughter.  We are nervous but hopeful that we will have our immigration papers in hand before we leave.  There has also been some back and forth talk about Anya going back early to the orphanage that she spent her first 2 months in.  We are hoping and praying that this will not happen and that she will remain with her foster family who love and care for her right up until the time that we receive her into our family.  Our agency told us we will meet her on March 30.  It was 4 years ago on March 28th that Kayla joined our family.  Now we will have two Family Day celebrations at the end of March!!

Getting ready for Anya

The crib is set up and the girls and I moved some more age appropriate toys for Anya up to the girls' bedroom.  The craft and office station where Kayla and Addy like to do their thing has moved downstairs.  Back to a little baby proofing.  Started to pack the suitcases with the donations in it tonight...OUCH!  I have packed and repacked and can't seem to make the 15 extra pounds go away.  There is always bringing more luggage I guess.  On another note...tonight we had to have our first of two drinks of an anti diarrhea drink (the second dose we have right before we go away).  I have been pondering how to get this into our easily gagging children (who don't even like taking Tylenol) but they did okay.  Scott has decided he is not ready to take his dose tonight after watching me gag mine down (don't worry, the kids didn't see that).  Now that we are under the two week mark time is going to fly.  We will leave home as a family of 6 and come back as 7!!!  We talked today about where everyone will sit at the table.  The girls want to be on either side of Anya.  I suggested that perhaps I should be beside her to help her but Addy insists she is going to do that.  Lots of great helpers who will smoother our new little girl with love and attention!!

Two weeks to go...

Preparation for our trip continues.  We just got word that our final document called "Notice of Coming" has arrived.  We are officially ready to bring Anya home to our family.  The itinerary is being finalized for our travel as well as the adoption part of our trip.  We are collecting some things to bring to the orphanages and Philip Hayden when we visit.  Thanks for the help from friends and suppliers in helping us purchase and collect these much needed items.  Scott keeps looking at the growing pile of items and wonders how we will get it all there.  Where there is a will there is a way!!  My Mom (Nana) is joining us for the last two and a half weeks so we'll pack a suitcase for her to bring directly to Philip Hayden.  We are very excited that she will be traveling with us...especially once we receive Anya as an extra body and pair of hands will be helpful with her transition.  It will be amazing for her to be there to experience the miracle of receiving a child/grand-daughter into our family.

A big surprise!!

What a fun and exciting day it was today.  I arrived to pick up my friend Elaine as we were going out for lunch and when I knocked on the door to tell her I was there many of my tennis friends were there as they had organized a party to celebrate Anya's arrival into our family.  Kayla was a little confused after I prepped her for a restaurant meal and she ended up having lunch, a beautiful cake and opening presents instead.  Thank you to all of my tennis buds for such a special afternoon and for following our journey to our new daughter Anya.  The kids had a blast going through the clothes and books and Kayla is quite excited as she will fit into some of Anya's beautiful sweaters.  Anya will be the best dressed little girl around!  Thanks again.!!

Countdown is on...

Now that February is here the anticipation of our trip to China and receiving of our new daughter is mounting.  Our flights are booked and our travel plans under way.  The Chinese visa applications are in and we are collecting things to bring to the children in the orphanages.  The girls are pulling their new carryon suitcases all over the house and deciding what treasures they want to bring.  Anya's crib went up yesterday and the girls are testing out all of the favourite toys that she will want to play with.  On the way to school today Bailey announced..."30 more days to go!!"

Our trip is shaping up to look something like this...

Toronto to Hong Kong
Guilin
Chengdu
Changsha (where we received Kayla)
Chenzhou (to visit Kayla's orphanage and city of birth)
Shanghai
Xian
Beijing (Philip Hayden Foster Home)

And then our Journey Begins...

Receive Anya in Henan Province
Return to Beijing for the last week
Bring our new daughter home!!!
